Ancient Dunes-White Pocket -CMP 460 - Limited Edition
Approximately 190 million years ago, this area was part of a region covered in deep, shifting sand & dunes comparable to todays Sahara.The various shades of red, pink, yellow & brown rocks are due to the oxidation of iron bearing minerals with in the sandstone. The beautiful swirled appearance of the rocks at White Pocket are due to an exceptional exposure of soft sediment deformation & slump sediment. The Polygonal cracks are produced by stress & exposure weathering process. Theories include thermal contraction, moisture cycles and drying process of these sediments.
